U.S. Chicory Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the chicory price per ton amounted to $1.5K (CIF, US), growing by 29% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The import price peaked at $1.6K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3.2K per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+44.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Chicory Imports
In August 2022, imports of chicory into the United States declined remarkably to 77 tons, shrinking by -49.1% compared with the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 1,605% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 326 tons. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chicory imports dropped significantly to $82K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 901% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $310K. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Chicory Imports by Country
In June 2022, Belgium (57 tons) constituted the largest chicory supplier to the United States, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, chicory imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (19 tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Belgium amounted to +24.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (0.0% per month) and India (-17.7% per month).
In value terms, Germany ($62K), Belgium ($59K) and India ($10K) were the largest chicory suppliers to the United States.
Germany, with a CAGR of +44.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
