Cinnamon Prices in the United States

U.S. Cinnamon Import Price per Ton in August 2022

In August 2022, the cinnamon price per ton amounted to $5.9K (CIF, US), shrinking by -9.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6.5K per ton, and then contracted in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($8.1K per ton), while the price for Turkey ($3.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

U.S. Cinnamon Imports

In August 2022, after three months of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of cinnamon (canella), when their volume increased by 26% to 2.7K tons. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight curtailment.

In value terms, cinnamon imports rose significantly to $16M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 22% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $20M. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

U.S. Cinnamon Imports by Country

Indonesia (1.2K tons), Vietnam (1.1K tons) and Sri Lanka (274 tons) were the main suppliers of cinnamon imports to the United States, with a combined 96% share of total imports. Turkey lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 1.6%.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +31.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Indonesia ($6.5M), Vietnam ($6.4M) and Sri Lanka ($2.2M) appeared to be the largest cinnamon suppliers to the United States, with a combined 96% share of total imports. Turkey lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 1%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +8.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
