China Clays For Construction and Industrial Use Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the clays for construction and industrial use price stood at $555 per ton (FOB, China), surging by 38% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,250 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($265 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Clays For Construction and Industrial Use Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was andalusite, kyanite and sillimanite ($772 per ton), while the average price for exports of chamotte or dinas earths ($353 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: common clay (+8.6%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Clays For Construction and Industrial Use Exports
Exports of clays for construction and industrial use from China surged to 14K tons in August 2022, rising by 23% against July 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 108% m-o-m. The exports peaked in August 2022.
In value terms, exports of clays for construction and industrial use skyrocketed to $7.6M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 94% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum in August 2022.
China Clays For Construction and Industrial Use Exports by Type
Mullite (7.5K tons) was the largest type of clays for construction and industrial use exported from China, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, mullite exceeded the volume of the second product type, common clay (2.8K tons), threefold. Chamotte or dinas earths (2.2K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of mullite stood at -2.4%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: common clay (+8.2% per month) and chamotte or dinas earths (+4.8% per month).
In value terms, mullite ($4M) remains the largest type of clays for construction and industrial use exported from China, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by common clay ($1.9M), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by andalusite, kyanite and sillimanite, with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of mullite was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: common clay (+17.5% per month) and andalusite, kyanite and sillimanite (+9.7% per month).
China Clays For Construction and Industrial Use Exports by Country
South Korea (3.4K tons), Japan (1.8K tons) and Turkey (1.5K tons) were the main destinations of exports of clays for construction and industrial use from China, together accounting for 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, the Netherlands, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia and Australia, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +60.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($2.6M) remains the key foreign market for clays for construction and industrial use exports from China, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($788K), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 7.2% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to South Korea stood at +4.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+8.2% per month) and Turkey (+38.7% per month).
