China Cocoa Butter Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the cocoa butter price stood at $4,319 per ton (CIF, China), flattening at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 an increase of 2% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,881 per ton. From March 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($11.1 per kg), while the price for Malaysia ($3,714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Cocoa Butter Imports
In September 2022, cocoa butter imports into China reduced sharply to 951 tons, with a decrease of -58% compared with August 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 91% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 2.3K tons in August 2022, and then declined sharply in the following month.
In value terms, cocoa butter imports reduced rapidly to $4.1M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports showed a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 93% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 10K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
China Cocoa Butter Imports by Country
Singapore (578 tons), Indonesia (291 tons) and Malaysia (65 tons) were the main suppliers of cocoa butter imports to China, together accounting for 98% of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +39.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Singapore ($2.5M) constituted the largest supplier of cocoa butter to China, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($1.2M), with a 29% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 5.9% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Singapore totaled +36.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-12.1% per month) and Malaysia (-16.0% per month).
