U.S. Coconut Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the coconut price per ton amounted to $1.1K (CIF, US), shrinking by -2% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 6.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1.1K per ton in June 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($3.5K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($750.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Coconut Imports
In August 2022, overseas purchases of coconuts increased by 27% to 5.2K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +6.0% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, coconut imports surged to $5.7M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.9% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
U.S. Coconut Imports by Country
Mexico (2.9K tons), Thailand (1.7K tons) and the Dominican Republic (381 tons) were the main suppliers of coconut imports to the United States, with a combined 94% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain and Costa Rica, which together accounted for a further 4.2%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest coconut suppliers to the United States were Thailand ($2.6M), Mexico ($2.2M) and Spain ($393K), with a combined 90% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
