China Coffee Extract Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the coffee extract price stood at $8,141 per ton (CIF, China), with a decrease of -2.7% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 18% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $8,610 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($12.9 per kg), while the price for Indonesia ($2,955 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Coffee Extract Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was extracts, essences and concentrates; of coffee, and preparations with a basis of these extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee ($16.1 per kg), while the price for preparations with a basis of extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee ($5,653 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by coffee substitutes (+36.5%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Coffee Extract Imports
In September 2022, supplies from abroad of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates decreased by -7.7% to 3.8K tons, falling for the fourth month in a row after three months of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 47% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 5K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, coffee extract imports fell to $31M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 30% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 39K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Coffee Extract Imports by Type
In August 2022, preparations with a basis of extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee (3K tons) constituted the largest type of coffee extract supplied to China, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, preparations with a basis of extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, extracts, essences and concentrates; of coffee, and preparations with a basis of these extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee (1.1K tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of preparations with a basis of extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee totaled -1.4%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: extracts, essences and concentrates; of coffee, and preparations with a basis of these extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee (+0.6% per month) and coffee substitutes containing coffee (-47.5% per month).
In value terms, the most traded types of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates in China were preparations with a basis of extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee ($17M), extracts, essences and concentrates; of coffee, and preparations with a basis of these extracts, essences or concentrates or with a basis of coffee ($17M) and coffee substitutes containing coffee ($6.1K).
China Coffee Extract Imports by Country
Malaysia (1.3K tons), Vietnam (940 tons) and Japan (678 tons) were the main suppliers of coffee extract imports to China, with a combined 76% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +7.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($8.8M), Malaysia ($8.3M) and Vietnam ($6.3M) constituted the largest coffee extract suppliers to China, together comprising 76% of total imports.
Japan, with a CAGR of +6.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
