China Compounds Of Rare-Earth Metals Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the compounds of rare-earth metals price stood at $17.4 per kg (CIF, China), dropping by -38.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 120% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $34,898 per ton. From August 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($46.2 per kg), while the price for the United States ($421 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Compounds Of Rare-Earth Metals Imports
In September 2022, overseas purchases of compounds of rare-earth metals, of yttrium or of scandium or mixtures of these metals increased by 33% to 5.2K tons, rising for the second month in a row after three months of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 165% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.5K tons. From May 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, compounds of rare-earth metals imports fell dramatically to $90M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when imports increased by 69% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 111K tons in August 2022, and then declined significantly in the following month.
China Compounds Of Rare-Earth Metals Imports by Country
In September 2022, Myanmar (3.6K tons) constituted the largest supplier of compounds of rare-earth metals to China, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, compounds of rare-earth metals imports from Myanmar exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (828 tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (358 tons), with a 6.9% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Myanmar totaled +46.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: the United States (+151.9% per month) and Malaysia (-13.0% per month).
In value terms, Myanmar ($64M) constituted the largest supplier of compounds of rare-earth metals to China, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($17M), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5.9% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Myanmar amounted to +34.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-3.3% per month) and Vietnam (-5.4% per month).
