U.S. Computer Terminal Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the computer terminal price amounted to $93 per unit (CIF, US), with a decrease of -2.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 7.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $98 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($333 per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($49 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Computer Terminal Imports
In August 2022, overseas purchases of computer terminals and other computer peripheral equipment were finally on the rise to reach 29M units for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 26% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in August 2022.
In value terms, computer terminal imports totaled $2.7B (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain months. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 31% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.7B. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Computer Terminal Imports by Country
In August 2022, China (18M units) constituted the largest supplier of computer terminal to the United States, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, computer terminal imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (5.5M units), threefold. Taiwan (Chinese) (1.8M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.3% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+8.9% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.3% per month).
In value terms, China ($1.2B) constituted the largest supplier of computer terminal to the United States, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($338M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 9.9% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.1% per month) and Thailand (+2.4% per month).
