China Confectionery Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the confectionery price amounted to $3,833 per ton (FOB, China), with an increase of 5.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 5.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($6,090 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($2,525 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Confectionery Export Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was chocolate and confectionery ($5,953 per ton), while the average price for exports of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $3,333 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: chocolate and confectionery (+1.3%).
China Confectionery Exports
Confectionery exports from China fell to 45K tons in September 2022, declining by -8.4% on the month before. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 42% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 50K tons in August 2022, and then fell in the following month.
In value terms, confectionery exports reduced modestly to $174M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total exports indicated a slight expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports increased by +128.5% against February 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 44% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 181K tons in August 2022, and then dropped modestly in the following month.
China Confectionery Exports by Type
Candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery (37K tons) was the largest type of confectionery exported from China, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exceeded the volume of the second product type, chocolate and confectionery (8.7K tons), fourfold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery was relatively modest.
In value terms, candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery ($123M) remains the largest type of confectionery exported from China, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by chocolate and confectionery ($52M), with a 30% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery was relatively modest.
China Confectionery Exports by Country
Indonesia (4.9K tons), the United States (4.9K tons) and the Philippines (3.8K tons) were the main destinations of confectionery exports from China, with a combined 30% share of total exports. Russia, Australia, Canada, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mexico, the UK and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Russia (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($24M), Indonesia ($12M) and the Philippines ($12M) constituted the largest markets for confectionery exported from China worldwide, with a combined 28% share of total exports. South Korea, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Russia, Malaysia, Mexico, the UK, Vietnam and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
Canada, with a CAGR of +12.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
