U.S. Copper Bars, Wire And Plates Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the copper bars, wire and plates price amounted to $10.3 per kg (CIF, US), shrinking by -4.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 2.4% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $11,241 per ton. From June 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Finland ($15.9 per kg), while the price for Mexico ($8,699 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Copper Bars, Wire And Plates Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was copper plates, sheets and strip ($10.4 per kg), while the price for copper wire ($9,067 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by copper bar, rod and profile (+0.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.
U.S. Copper Bars, Wire And Plates Imports
After two months of decline, overseas purchases of copper bars, wire and plates increased by 2% to 28K tons in September 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 23% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 36K tons. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports shrank modestly to $268M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 24% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $390M. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Copper Bars, Wire And Plates Imports by Type
Copper wire (14K tons), copper plates, sheets and strip (8.8K tons) and copper bars, rods and profiles (4.5K tons) were the main products of copper bars, wire and plates imports to the United States.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in copper plates, sheets and strip (with a CAGR of +4.5%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline.
In value terms, the most traded types of copper bars, wire and plates in the United States were copper wire ($131M), copper plates, sheets and strip ($91M) and copper bars, rods and profiles ($46M).
U.S. Copper Bars, Wire And Plates Imports by Country
In August 2022, Canada (9.2K tons) constituted the largest copper bars, wire and plates supplier to the United States, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, copper bars, wire and plates imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (2K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Peru (1.1K tons), with a 4.1% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada amounted to -6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-4.5% per month) and Peru (-6.4% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($84M) constituted the largest supplier of copper bars, wire and plates to the United States, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($28M), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Canada stood at -7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-3.6% per month) and Peru (-7.0% per month).
