China Copper Stranded Wire Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the copper stranded wire price amounted to $9,928 per ton (CIF, China), which is down by -10.2% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 13% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $11.0 per kg in August 2022, and then contracted in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($27.4 per kg), while the price for South Korea stood at $6,312 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+0.2%).

China Copper Stranded Wire Imports

In September 2022, approximately 709 tons of copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands were imported into China; with a decrease of -2.6% compared with the previous month's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 1.1K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper stranded wire imports reduced to $7M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 24% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 10K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China Copper Stranded Wire Imports by Country

In September 2022, South Korea (647 tons) was the main copper stranded wire supplier to China, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, copper stranded wire imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (35 tons), more than tenfold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from South Korea stood at -6.0%.

In value terms, South Korea ($4.1M) constituted the largest supplier of copper stranded wire to China, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($948K), with a 13% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from South Korea stood at -6.1%.
