U.S. Cotton Sewing Thread Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the cotton sewing thread price per ton stood at $15.8K (CIF, US), jumping by 40% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated prominent growth from January 2022 to June 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.3% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, cotton sewing thread import price decreased by -26.4% against April 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 an increase of 62% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $21.4K per ton. From May 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($113.9K per ton), while the price for China ($7.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+20.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Cotton Sewing Thread Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was cotton; sewing thread, containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale ($24.0K per ton), while the price for cotton; sewing thread, containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale ($9.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by cotton; sewing thread, containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (+8.3%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Cotton Sewing Thread Imports
For the third consecutive month, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of cotton sewing thread, which decreased by -8.8% to 34 tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when imports increased by 97% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 71 tons. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton sewing thread imports fell rapidly to $531K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when imports increased by 131% month-to-month.

In August 2022, cotton; sewing thread, put up for retail sale (23 tons) constituted the largest type of cotton sewing thread supplied to the United States, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, cotton; sewing thread, put up for retail sale exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, cotton; sewing thread, containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (9.3 tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of cotton; sewing thread, put up for retail sale amounted to +5.0%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: cotton; sewing thread, containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (-8.1% per month) and cotton; sewing thread, containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (-8.5% per month).

U.S. Cotton Sewing Thread Imports by Country
India (18 tons), Japan (11 tons) and the Czech Republic (7.1 tons) were the main suppliers of cotton sewing thread imports to the United States, together accounting for 67% of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +169.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
