U.S. Cotton Yarn Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the cotton yarn price per ton stood at $3.8K (FOB, US), flattening at the previous month. Over the last five months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in June 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Colombia ($4.5K per ton) and Guatemala ($4.3K per ton), while the average price for exports to the Dominican Republic ($3.3K per ton) and Honduras ($3.8K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Cotton Yarn Export Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), put up for retail sale ($5.7K per ton), while the average price for exports of cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale ($3.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (+3.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Cotton Yarn Exports
In June 2022, exports of cotton yarn from the United States declined slightly to 32K tons, remaining constant against the previous month. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when exports increased by 11% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 32K tons, leveling off in the following month.
In value terms, cotton yarn exports contracted slightly to $120M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when exports increased by 14% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $121M, leveling off in the following month.
U.S. Cotton Yarn Exports by Type
Cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (30K tons) was the largest type of cotton yarn exported from the United States, accounting for a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale exceeded the volume of the second product type, cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (1.9K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale stood at +2.7%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (-4.5% per month) and cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), put up for retail sale (+5.1% per month).
In value terms, cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale ($111M) remains the largest type of cotton yarn exported from the United States, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale ($8.7M), with a 7.3% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale totaled +4.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing less than 85% by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (-1.2% per month) and cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), put up for retail sale (+0.6% per month).
U.S. Cotton Yarn Exports by Country
Honduras (18K tons) was the main destination for cotton yarn exports from the United States, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton yarn exports to Honduras exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Dominican Republic (8.9K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by El Salvador (1.7K tons), with a 5.5% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Honduras stood at +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Dominican Republic (+0.4% per month) and El Salvador (-4.3% per month).
In value terms, Honduras ($69M) remains the key foreign market for cotton yarn exports from the United States, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($29M), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 6.2% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Honduras totaled +7.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Dominican Republic (+0.7% per month) and Guatemala (-3.2% per month).
