U.S. Crab and Crab Meat Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the crab and crab meat price per ton amounted to $27.8K (CIF, US), with a decrease of -26.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 18% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $49.4K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($77.1K per ton), while the price for China ($4.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Crab and Crab Meat Imports
After two months of growth, overseas purchases of crabs and crab meat decreased by -46.5% to 10K tons in June 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 213% m-o-m.
In value terms, crab and crab meat imports fell rapidly to $286M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 154% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $729M, and then declined remarkably in the following month.
U.S. Crab and Crab Meat Imports by Country
In June 2022, Canada (8.3K tons) constituted the largest supplier of crab and crab meat to the United States, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, crab and crab meat imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (880 tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (236 tons), with a 2.3% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada amounted to +91.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Russia (-15.8% per month) and China (-6.8% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($200M) constituted the largest supplier of crab and crab meat to the United States, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($68M), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Myanmar, with a 1% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada totaled +85.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Russia (-14.9% per month) and Myanmar (+11.0% per month).
