Cucumber And Gherkin Prices in the United States

U.S. Cucumber And Gherkin Import Price per Ton in August 2022

In August 2022, the cucumber and gherkin price per ton amounted to $419.8 (CIF, US), declining by -1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1.1K per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($632.0 per ton), while the price for Canada amounted to $404.0 per ton.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

U.S. Cucumber And Gherkin Imports

After three months of decline, supplies from abroad of cucumbers and gherkins increased by 7.3% to 14K tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a precipitous decrease.

In value terms, cucumber and gherkin imports expanded rapidly to $6M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 with an increase of 17% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $119M. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

U.S. Cucumber And Gherkin Imports by Country

In August 2022, Canada (13K tons) was the main cucumber and gherkin supplier to the United States, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, cucumber and gherkin imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (983 tons), more than tenfold.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Canada totaled +10.9%.

In value terms, Canada ($5.4M) constituted the largest supplier of cucumber and gherkin to the United States, comprising 90% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($621K), with a 10% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada amounted to -14.5%.
