U.S. Dairy Produce Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the dairy produce price per ton stood at $3.9K (FOB, US), increasing by 1.8% against the previous month. Over the last five months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 4.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in June 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($16.1K per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($1.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+38.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Dairy Produce Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was cheese ($5.3K per ton), while the average price for exports of skim milk ($673.4 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: evaporated and condensed milk (+6.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Dairy Produce Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of dairy produce increased by 1.5% to 134K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 23% m-o-m.
In value terms, dairy produce exports expanded modestly to $536M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.3% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 28% m-o-m.
U.S. Dairy Produce Exports by Type
Powdered milk (69K tons), cheese (39K tons) and whole fresh milk (10K tons) were the main products of dairy produce exports from the United States, together comprising 88% of total exports. Butter and dairy spreads, yoghurt and fermented milk, cream fresh, evaporated and condensed milk, ghee and skim milk lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in skim milk (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, powdered milk ($273M), cheese ($204M) and butter and dairy spreads ($26M) constituted the most exported types of dairy produce from the United States worldwide, together comprising 94% of total exports. Whole fresh milk, yoghurt and fermented milk, evaporated and condensed milk, ghee, cream fresh and skim milk lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.1%.
Yoghurt and fermented milk, with a CAGR of +9.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Dairy Produce Exports by Country
Canada (7.5K tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (6K tons) and Bahrain (963 tons) were the main destinations of dairy produce exports from the United States, together accounting for 9.9% of total exports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +13.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Canada ($19M) emerged as the key foreign market for dairy produce exports from the United States, comprising 3.3% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($6.2M), with a 1.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 0.6% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Canada totaled +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-0.6% per month) and Bahrain (-5.6% per month).
