China Date Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the date price stood at $548 per ton (CIF, China), growing by 40% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($880 per ton), while the price for Iran stood at $400 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Date Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of dates decreased by -60.2% to 676 tons for the first time since June 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. In general, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 119% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 1.7K tons in August 2022, and then shrank dramatically in the following month.
In value terms, date imports shrank sharply to $370K (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 with an increase of 120% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $785K. From August 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
China Date Imports by Country
In September 2022, Iran (468 tons) constituted the largest supplier of date to China, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, date imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (208 tons), twofold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Iran stood at +8.9%.
In value terms, the largest date suppliers to China were Iran ($187K) and the United Arab Emirates ($184K).
