U.S. Denatured Ethyl Alcohol Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the denatured ethyl alcohol price per ton stood at $783.2 (FOB, US), growing by 5% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 9% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $800.5 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($1.6K per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($597.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+88.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Denatured Ethyl Alcohol Exports
In August 2022, approximately 234K tons of denatured ethyl alcohol and other denatured spirits were exported from the United States; declining by -19.6% compared with the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 61% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 331K tons. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, denatured ethyl alcohol exports contracted markedly to $183M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 64% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $226M. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Denatured Ethyl Alcohol Exports by Country
Canada (191K tons) was the main destination for denatured ethyl alcohol exports from the United States, with a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, denatured ethyl alcohol exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (20K tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (9.1K tons), with a 3.9% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Canada amounted to +5.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+29.6% per month) and the Netherlands (-12.8% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($153M) remains the key foreign market for denatured ethyl alcohol exports from the United States, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($14M), with a 7.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 3.3% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Canada stood at +5.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+28.4% per month) and the Netherlands (-11.9% per month).
