U.S. Domestic Appliances Import Price in July 2022
In July 2022, the domestic appliances price amounted to $39 per unit (CIF, US), waning by -4.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.5% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $42 per unit in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to July 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($84 per unit), while the price for Canada ($7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Domestic Appliances Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was combined refrigerators-freezers ($576 per unit), while the price for electric heating resistors ($4.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by electric blanket (+5.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Domestic Appliances Imports
In July 2022, the amount of domestic appliances imported into the United States shrank slightly to 74M units, waning by -3.2% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 86M units in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to July 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, domestic appliances imports declined to $2.9B (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Overall, imports saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 3.2B units in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to July 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Domestic Appliances Imports by Type
Electric heating resistors (14M units), electric space heating apparatus and soil heating apparatus (9M units) and electric shavers, hair-removing appliances and hair clippers (6.3M units) were the main products of domestic appliances imports to the United States, together accounting for 40% of total imports. Table, floor, wall, window, ceiling or roof fans, vacuum cleaners with motor, domestic food grinders and mixers and fruit or vegetable juice extractors, domestic electric coffee or tea makers, hair curlers and curling tongs, electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters, electric hair dryers, non-electric air heaters or hot air distributors, domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances, electric smoothing irons, domestic microwave ovens, electric blankets, domestic electric toasters, combined refrigerators-freezers, electric water heaters and immersion heaters, household refrigerators and freezers (not combined), iron or steel solid fuel domestic appliances, iron or steel gas domestic appliances, ventilating or eecycling hoods incorporating a fan, non-electric instantaneous or storage water heaters, household dishwashing machines, household washing and drying machines, iron or steel liquid fuel domestic appliances, electric hand-drying apparatus and vacuum cleaners without motor lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 60%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by electric blanket (with a CAGR of +22.9%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, combined refrigerators-freezers ($662M) constituted the largest type of domestic appliances supplied to the United States, comprising 23% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by vacuum cleaners with motor ($301M), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters, with a 7.3% share.
U.S. Domestic Appliances Imports by Country
In July 2022, China (44M units) constituted the largest supplier of domestic appliances to the United States, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, domestic appliances imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (8.9M units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Canada (5.7M units), with a 7.7% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China totaled -1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+0.9% per month) and Canada (+12.5% per month).
In value terms, the largest domestic appliances suppliers to the United States were China ($1.2B), Mexico ($748M) and Vietnam ($52M), with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Germany, Indonesia and Canada, which together accounted for a further 6.2%.
Germany, with a CAGR of +5.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
