China Dry Peas Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the dry peas price stood at $585 per ton (CIF, China), falling by -3% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 33% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $604 per ton, and then declined in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the countries with the highest prices were France ($677 per ton) and the United States ($595 per ton), while the price for Australia ($542 per ton) and Canada ($559 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Dry Peas Imports
In September 2022, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of peas (dry), when their volume decreased by -91.3% to 15K tons. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 194% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 172K tons in August 2022, and then shrank markedly in the following month.
In value terms, dry peas imports contracted notably to $8.8M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 200% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 104K tons in August 2022, and then shrank rapidly in the following month.
China Dry Peas Imports by Country
In September 2022, Canada (9.4K tons) constituted the largest dry peas supplier to China, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, dry peas imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (1.9K tons), fivefold. France (1.5K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada amounted to -18.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (-22.0% per month) and France (-13.7% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($5.2M) constituted the largest supplier of dry peas to China, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($1M), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada stood at -15.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: France (-12.1% per month) and Australia (-20.5% per month).
