China Electrical Transformer Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the electrical transformer price amounted to $1.5 per unit (FOB, China), falling by -4.2% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 37% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1.6 per unit in August 2022, and then contracted modestly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($5,350 per unit), while the average price for exports to India ($545 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+210.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Electrical Transformer Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 650 kVA to 10000 kVA ($57,588 per unit), while the average price for exports of electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity under 1 kVA ($681 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 650 kVA to 10000 kVA (+17.3%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Electrical Transformer Exports

Electrical transformer exports from China totaled 274M units in September 2022, remaining stable against August 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 50% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 337M units in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electrical transformer exports declined modestly to $409M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 13% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 423M units in August 2022, and then dropped slightly in the following month.

China Electrical Transformer Exports by Type

Electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity under 1 kVA (268M units) was the largest type of electrical transformer exported from China, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 1 kVA to 16 kVA (4M units), with a 1.5% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 16 kVA to 500 kVA (1.4M units), with a 0.5% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity under 1 kVA amounted to -2.7%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 1 kVA to 16 kVA (+6.1% per month) and electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 16 kVA to 500 kVA (+14.7% per month).

In value terms, the most traded types of electrical transformers in China were electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity under 1 kVA ($182M), electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity over 10000 kVA ($109M) and electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 650 kVA to 10000 kVA ($34M), together accounting for 79% of total exports. These products were followed by electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 1 kVA - 650 kVA, electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity over 500 kVA, electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 1 kVA to 16 kVA and electrical transformers with non-liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 16 kVA to 500 kVA, which together accounted for a further 21%.

Electrical transformers with liquid dielectric, of power handling capacity from 1 kVA - 650 kVA, with a CAGR of +13.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Electrical Transformer Exports by Country

India (1.3M units) was the main destination for electrical transformer exports from China, with a 0.5% share of total exports. Moreover, electrical transformer exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brazil (100K units), more than tenfold. The Philippines (97K units) ranked third in terms of total exports with less than 0.1% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to India totaled -30.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Brazil (-36.6% per month) and the Philippines (-37.7% per month).

In value terms, the largest markets for electrical transformer exported from China were the United States ($3.2M), the Philippines ($2.1M) and Japan ($1M), together accounting for 1.5% of total exports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of -4.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
