China Ether Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the ether price stood at $1,308 per ton (FOB, China), dropping by -6.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 3.8% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,687 per ton. From March 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,280 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($1,069 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
China Ether Exports
In September 2022, approximately 320K tons of ethers were exported from China; increasing by 3.8% on August 2022 figures. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when exports increased by 228% m-o-m. The exports peaked in September 2022.
In value terms, ether exports reduced to $419M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when exports increased by 107% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 452K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Ether Exports by Country
Singapore (180K tons) was the main destination for ether exports from China, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, ether exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (54K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (33K tons), with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Singapore stood at +121.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+89.4% per month) and the Netherlands (+64.0% per month).
In value terms, Singapore ($195M) remains the key foreign market for ether exports from China, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($63M), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Singapore totaled +87.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+67.9% per month) and the Netherlands (+29.5% per month).
