China Fibreboard Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the fibreboard price amounted to $441 per cubic meter (FOB, China), which is down by -7.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 21% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $548 per cubic meter in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($820 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($262 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Fibreboard Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was insulating board ($1,016 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports of MDF ($425 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: hardboard (-0.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.
China Fibreboard Exports
In September 2022, after three months of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of fibreboard, when their volume increased by 14% to 203K cubic meters. Overall, exports, however, saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 31% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 268K cubic meters. From June 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fibreboard exports stood at $90M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when exports increased by 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 127M cubic meters in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Fibreboard Exports by Type
MDF (192K cubic meters) was the largest type of fibreboard exported from China, accounting for a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, MDF exceeded the volume of the second product type, hardboard (11K cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of MDF totaled -2.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: hardboard (+1.5% per month) and insulating board (+9.2% per month).
In value terms, MDF ($81M) remains the largest type of fibreboard exported from China, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by hardboard ($7.8M), with an 8.7% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of MDF amounted to -3.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: hardboard (+0.8% per month) and insulating board (+0.6% per month).
China Fibreboard Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (37K cubic meters), the United Arab Emirates (25K cubic meters) and Vietnam (14K cubic meters) were the main destinations of fibreboard exports from China, together comprising 37% of total exports. the United States, Algeria, Mexico, Australia, Canada, Jordan, Nigeria, Iraq, Uzbekistan and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Jordan (with a CAGR of +51.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for fibreboard exported from China were the United States ($10M), Saudi Arabia ($10M) and the United Arab Emirates ($7.9M), together accounting for 32% of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Mexico, Uzbekistan, Russia, Algeria, Nigeria, Jordan and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 33%.
Among the main countries of destination, Jordan, with a CAGR of +41.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
