China Flax Fiber Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the flax fiber price amounted to $3,770 per ton (CIF, China), dropping by -6.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.5% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,183 per ton. From July 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($4,537 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($2,553 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Flax Fiber Imports
Flax fiber imports into China fell dramatically to 9.9K tons in September 2022, waning by -21.7% compared with August 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 48% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 15K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, flax fiber imports fell dramatically to $37M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 53% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 63K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Flax Fiber Imports by Country
In September 2022, France (5.7K tons) constituted the largest flax fiber supplier to China, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, flax fiber imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (2.8K tons), twofold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from France totaled -6.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Egypt (+30.8% per month) and Belgium (+0.1% per month).
In value terms, France ($24M) constituted the largest supplier of flax fiber to China, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($7.2M), with a 19% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from France stood at -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Egypt (+28.5% per month) and Belgium (+2.6% per month).
