U.S. Fluoropolymers Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the fluoropolymers price per ton stood at $22.9K (CIF, US), rising by 16% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in August 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Italy ($41.8K per ton), while the price for Belgium ($3.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Fluoropolymers Imports
In August 2022, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of fluoropolymers, when their volume decreased by -10.2% to 3.3K tons. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 26% against the previous month.
In value terms, fluoropolymers imports expanded slightly to $75M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.4% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 26% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in August 2022.
U.S. Fluoropolymers Imports by Country
China (825 tons), Japan (649 tons) and Germany (507 tons) were the main suppliers of fluoropolymers imports to the United States, with a combined 60% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +12.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($20M), China ($17M) and Italy ($13M) appeared to be the largest fluoropolymers suppliers to the United States, together comprising 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, India, the Netherlands, France and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Germany, with a CAGR of +14.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
