In March 2023, the average freshwater fish export price amounted to $7,674 per ton, falling by -1.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 13% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,246 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to March 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($22.1 per kg), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($5,102 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average freshwater fish import price stood at $6,450 per ton in March 2023, which is down by -41% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 an increase of 229% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $24,842 per ton. From May 2022 to March 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($9,356 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($3,490 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
