China Frozen Chicken Cut Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the frozen chicken cut price amounted to $3,855 per ton (CIF, China), approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, frozen chicken cut import price increased by +48.5% against February 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,106 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2,200 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Frozen Chicken Cut Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of frozen cuts of chicken decreased by -2.2% to 109K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after two months of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 12% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 118K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen chicken cut imports reduced slightly to $419M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated temperate growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.5% against February 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 24% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 424K tons in August 2022, and then reduced modestly in the following month.
China Frozen Chicken Cut Imports by Country
Brazil (41K tons), the United States (25K tons) and Russia (13K tons) were the main suppliers of frozen chicken cut imports to China, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Argentina, Belarus and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 26%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Thailand (with a CAGR of +9.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($137M), the United States ($117M) and Thailand ($55M) constituted the largest frozen chicken cut suppliers to China, with a combined 73% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
