U.S. Frozen Chicken Cut Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the frozen chicken cut price per ton amounted to $1.4K (FOB, US), surging by 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1.5K per ton. From July 2022 to August 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($1.7K per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($1.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Frozen Chicken Cut Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of frozen cuts of chicken was finally on the rise to reach 251K tons after two months of decline. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 8.8% month-to-month.
In value terms, frozen chicken cut exports amounted to $364M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 11% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $386M. From July 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Frozen Chicken Cut Exports by Country
China (62K tons) was the main destination for frozen chicken cut exports from the United States, accounting for a 25% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen chicken cut exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cuba (21K tons), threefold. The Philippines (16K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to China amounted to +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Cuba (+1.4% per month) and the Philippines (+7.7% per month).
In value terms, China ($106M) remains the key foreign market for frozen chicken cut exports from the United States, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cuba ($26M), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 5.7% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to China totaled +1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Cuba (+5.6% per month) and the Philippines (+11.9% per month).
