U.S. Frozen Freshwater Fish Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the frozen freshwater fish price per ton amounted to $3.4K (CIF, US), waning by -3.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.1% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3.8K per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to June 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($8.3K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($1.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+24.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Frozen Freshwater Fish Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of frozen freshwater fish was finally on the rise to reach 8.2K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 25% m-o-m.
In value terms, frozen freshwater fish imports contracted slightly to $27M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 18% against the previous month.
U.S. Frozen Freshwater Fish Imports by Country
China (2.3K tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (1.3K tons) and Mexico (993 tons) were the main suppliers of frozen freshwater fish imports to the United States, together comprising 55% of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +17.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($5.9M), Brazil ($4.1M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($3.8M) appeared to be the largest frozen freshwater fish suppliers to the United States, with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Mexico, the Philippines, Venezuela, Canada, Myanmar and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 34%.
Among the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +9.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
