China Frozen Pork Cut Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the frozen pork cut price amounted to $2,194 per ton (CIF, China), increasing by 5.8% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 6% month-to-month. The import price peaked in September 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Chile ($2,716 per ton) and Denmark ($2,308 per ton), while the price for Canada ($2,001 per ton) and the UK ($2,005 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Frozen Pork Cut Imports
In September 2022, overseas purchases of frozen hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat increased by 19% to 40K tons, rising for the third consecutive month after two months of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at 40K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, frozen pork cut imports skyrocketed to $87M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% from January 2022 to September 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
China Frozen Pork Cut Imports by Country
Spain (9.8K tons), Denmark (7.8K tons) and the United States (5.4K tons) were the main suppliers of frozen pork cut imports to China, with a combined 58% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Canada, Chile, the UK, Brazil, France and Ireland, which together accounted for a further 38%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +4.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest frozen pork cut suppliers to China were Spain ($22M), Denmark ($18M) and the United States ($11M), with a combined 59% share of total imports.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +10.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
