China Fructose Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the fructose price amounted to $503 per ton, therefore (CIF, China), remained relatively stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $512 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($623 per ton), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic ($300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Fructose Imports
In September 2022, approximately 98K tons of fructose and fructose syrup were imported into China; with a decrease of -5.6% on the month before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports decreased by -22.2% against April 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 129% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 125K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fructose imports shrank to $49M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports decreased by -7.8% against May 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 134% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 60K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
China Fructose Imports by Country
In September 2022, Thailand (84K tons) constituted the largest fructose supplier to China, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, fructose imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (5.8K tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (4.3K tons), with a 4.4% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Thailand totaled +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+6.3% per month) and Vietnam (-4.1% per month).
In value terms, Thailand ($39M) constituted the largest supplier of fructose to China, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($2.7M), with a 5.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 5.4% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Thailand totaled +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-0.5% per month) and Malaysia (+3.8% per month).
