U.S. Fructose Export Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the fructose price per ton amounted to $537.6 (FOB, US), shrinking by -8.9% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 14% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $619.9 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to July 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($1.9K per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($457.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Fructose Exports
In August 2022, overseas shipments of fructose and fructose syrup decreased by -22% to 102K tons for the first time since February 2022, thus ending a five-month rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when exports increased by 26% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 130K tons, and then reduced dramatically in the following month.
In value terms, fructose exports contracted to $60M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 15% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $70M, and then contracted in the following month.
U.S. Fructose Exports by Country
Mexico (109K tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from the United States, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (15K tons), sevenfold.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (+5.0% per month) and Japan (+8.7% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($50M) remains the key foreign market for fructose exports from the United States, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($10M), with a 14% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Mexico totaled +3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (+3.1% per month) and Japan (+14.8% per month).

In July 2022, the fructose price per ton amounted to $538, falling by -8.9% against the previous month.
The U.S. remain the leading supplier of lactose and lactose syrup with a 36%-share in the global exports. While the volume of lactose shipments from the U.S. was almost unchanged from the previous year, exports in value terms jumped by 8% to $396, as the average exports price has significantly risen. Despite the trade tensions, China remains the key importer of lactose from the U.S., followed by New Zealand and Japan.
