China Furnace Carbon Electrode Export Price in July 2022
In July 2022, the furnace carbon electrode price stood at $3,447 per ton (FOB, China), with a decrease of -2% against the previous month. Over the last six-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 8.5% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,518 per ton, and then dropped modestly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($4,236 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($1,602 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Furnace Carbon Electrode Exports
Furnace carbon electrode exports from China rose markedly to 29K tons in July 2022, surging by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 37K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, furnace carbon electrode exports rose significantly to $101M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 34% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 117K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Furnace Carbon Electrode Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (2.2K tons), South Korea (2.1K tons) and Malaysia (1.8K tons) were the main destinations of furnace carbon electrode exports from China, with a combined 21% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +21.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for furnace carbon electrode exported from China were South Korea ($6.8M), Brazil ($5.8M) and Japan ($5.2M), together comprising 18% of total exports. Malaysia, Mexico, Egypt, Taiwan (Chinese), South Africa, Kazakhstan, Oman, Vietnam, Australia and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +9.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
