China Ginger Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the ginger price stood at $1,049 per ton (FOB, China), rising by 30% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a notable increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, ginger export price increased by +63.2% against June 2022 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($1,741 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($717 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Ginger Exports
Ginger exports from China declined slightly to 31K tons in September 2022, dropping by -4.3% compared with the previous month. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 34% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 46K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ginger exports skyrocketed to $33M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 31% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 38K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Ginger Exports by Country
The United States (5.6K tons), the United Arab Emirates (4.8K tons) and the Netherlands (2.8K tons) were the main destinations of ginger exports from China, with a combined 42% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +1.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($6M), the United Arab Emirates ($4.4M) and Japan ($3.4M) were the largest markets for ginger exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the UK, Canada, Vietnam, Pakistan and Qatar, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +6.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
