U.S. Ginger Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the ginger price per ton amounted to $1.2K (CIF, US), picking up by 21% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 23% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1.4K per ton. From June 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($3.4K per ton), while the price for China ($783.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Ginger Imports
In August 2022, approximately 7.9K tons of ginger were imported into the United States; reducing by -11.1% compared with the month before. In general, imports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 31% against the previous month.
In value terms, ginger imports rose remarkably to $9.8M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 15% month-to-month.
U.S. Ginger Imports by Country
China (3.4K tons), Peru (2.6K tons) and Brazil (1.1K tons) were the main suppliers of ginger imports to the United States, with a combined 91% share of total imports. India, Costa Rica and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.6%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in India (with a CAGR of +15.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Peru ($3.8M), China ($2.7M) and Brazil ($1.2M) were the largest ginger suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 79% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Costa Rica and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 9.7%.
In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
