China Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle price stood at $4,272 per ton (CIF, China), increasing by 13% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $4,604 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($15.8 per kg), while the price for the UK ($1,817 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle Import Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was sweet biscuits ($4,837 per ton), while the price for waffles and wafers totaled $3,896 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by gingerbread (+11.2%), while the prices for the other product experienced mixed trend patterns.

China Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle Imports

In September 2022, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports into China rose modestly to 12K tons, with an increase of 3% on August 2022 figures. In general, total imports indicated a mild increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.3% against February 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 29% month-to-month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

In value terms, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports skyrocketed to $52M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 31% month-to-month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

China Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle Imports by Type

Waffles and wafers (7.2K tons) and sweet biscuits (4.8K tons) were the main products of gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports to China.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in waffle and wafer (with a CAGR of +5.3%).

In value terms, the most traded types of gingerbread, sweet biscuits and waffles in China were waffles and wafers ($28M) and sweet biscuits ($23M).

China Gingerbread, Sweet Biscuit and Waffle Imports by Country

In September 2022, Indonesia (8.2K tons) constituted the largest supplier of gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle to China, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (573 tons), more than tenfold. Russia (545 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia amounted to +7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-1.0% per month) and Russia (+1.2% per month).

In value terms, Indonesia ($32M) constituted the largest supplier of gingerbread, sweet biscuit and waffle to China, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($3.4M), with a 6.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 4.1% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Indonesia stood at +10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-1.0% per month) and Malaysia (-1.4% per month).
