U.S. Glutamic Acid Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the glutamic acid price per ton amounted to $2.1K (CIF, US), remaining stable against the previous month. Over the last five-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 6.3% month-to-month. The import price peaked in June 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($4.9K per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Glutamic Acid Imports
In June 2022, glutamic acid imports into the United States contracted significantly to 3.2K tons, which is down by -26.7% on the previous month. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from January 2022 to June 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +7.8% over the last five months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.7% against January 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 42% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.4K tons, and then fell rapidly in the following month.
In value terms, glutamic acid imports contracted remarkably to $6.7M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when imports increased by 51% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $9M, and then shrank rapidly in the following month.
U.S. Glutamic Acid Imports by Country
Vietnam (1.5K tons), Malaysia (923 tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (315 tons) were the main suppliers of glutamic acid imports to the United States, with a combined 84% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +40.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($2.7M), Malaysia ($1.7M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($786K) appeared to be the largest glutamic acid suppliers to the United States, together comprising 78% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +28.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
