Grape Prices in China

China Grape Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the grape price amounted to $10.4 per kg (CIF, China), with an increase of 86% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 126% m-o-m. The import price peaked in September 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($28.2 per kg), while the price for the United States stood at $6,148 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Grape Imports

In September 2022, supplies from abroad of grapes increased by 12% to 49 tons for the first time since April 2022, thus ending a four-month declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a dramatic decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 174% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 55K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grape imports skyrocketed to $510K (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 158% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 159K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

China Grape Imports by Country

In September 2022, the United States (39 tons) constituted the largest supplier of grape to China, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, grape imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (9.5 tons), fourfold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +5.7%.

In value terms, the largest grape suppliers to China were South Korea ($268K) and the United States ($242K).

Among the main suppliers, the United States, with a CAGR of +15.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review.
