China Graphic Papers Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the graphic papers price amounted to $1,157 per ton (FOB, China), approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 10% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,210 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($2,027 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($807 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Graphic Papers Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was newsprint ($3,424 per ton), while the average price for exports of printing and writing paper totaled $1,152 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: printing and writing paper (-0.2%).
China Graphic Papers Exports
In September 2022, shipments abroad of graphic papers decreased by -17% to 226K tons, falling for the third consecutive month after two months of growth. Overall, total exports indicated a modest increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -25.9% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 31% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 305K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, graphic papers exports reduced rapidly to $261M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a modest expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -25.5% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when exports increased by 28% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 351K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Graphic Papers Exports by Type
Printing and writing paper (225K tons) was the largest type of graphic papers exported from China, accounting for a 100% share of total exports. It was followed by newsprint (516 tons), with a 0.2% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of printing and writing paper amounted to +1.6%.
In value terms, printing and writing paper ($259M) remains the largest type of graphic papers exported from China, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by newsprint ($1.8M), with a 0.7% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of printing and writing paper amounted to +1.4%.
China Graphic Papers Exports by Country
Japan (11K tons), Mexico (8.2K tons) and Hong Kong SAR (5.1K tons) were the main destinations of graphic papers exports from China, together accounting for 11% of total exports. Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, the Philippines, Italy, Thailand, India, Malaysia, South Korea and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Italy (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for graphic papers exported from China were Japan ($9.1M), Mexico ($7.8M) and India ($5.2M), with a combined 8.5% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Turkey, Hong Kong SAR, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Canada and Italy, which together accounted for a further 15%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +15.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
