U.S. Groundnut Oil Import Price per Ton in May 2022
In May 2022, the groundnut oil price per ton stood at $3.5K (CIF, US), dropping by -3.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 an increase of 95% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4.4K per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to May 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Hong Kong SAR ($4.3K per ton) and China ($3.4K per ton), while the price for Argentina ($3.0K per ton) and India ($3.3K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Groundnut Oil Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was refined groundnut oil ($4.2K per ton), while the price for crude groundnut oil totaled $2.1K per ton.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by refined groundnut oil (+9.9%).
U.S. Groundnut Oil Imports
Groundnut oil imports into the United States soared to 2.7K tons in June 2022, rising by 1,621% against May 2022 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 5,601% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 11K tons. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, groundnut oil imports soared to $5.8M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 2,318% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $20M. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Groundnut Oil Imports by Type
In June 2022, crude groundnut oil (2.6K tons) was the main type of groundnut oil supplied to the United States, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, crude groundnut oil exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, refined groundnut oil (95 tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of crude groundnut oil amounted to +107.9%.
In value terms, crude groundnut oil ($5.4M) constituted the largest type of groundnut oil supplied to the United States, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by refined groundnut oil ($404K), with a 7% share of total imports.
U.S. Groundnut Oil Imports by Country
India (70 tons), Argentina (40 tons) and Hong Kong SAR (31 tons) were the main suppliers of groundnut oil imports to the United States, together comprising 91% of total imports.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +27.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest groundnut oil suppliers to the United States were India ($230K), Hong Kong SAR ($136K) and Argentina ($121K), with a combined 90% share of total imports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +23.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
