U.S. Groundnuts Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the groundnuts price per ton amounted to $1.1K (FOB, US), surging by 6.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1.1K per ton in January 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1.6K per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($764.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Groundnuts Exports
Groundnuts exports from the United States dropped remarkably to 8.8K tons in August 2022, which is down by -20.7% against July 2022 figures. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 65% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 18K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, groundnuts exports fell to $11M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 52% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $18M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Groundnuts Exports by Country
China (4.8K tons) was the main destination for groundnuts exports from the United States, accounting for a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, groundnuts exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (992 tons), fivefold. Spain (808 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.7% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to China was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (+10.4% per month) and Spain (+21.4% per month).
In value terms, China ($3.7M) remains the key foreign market for groundnuts exports from the United States, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($1.2M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to China stood at -3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (+7.7% per month) and Spain (+20.7% per month).

In 2020, in-shell groundnut exports from the U.S. rose twofold in value terms and threefold in terms of volume thanks to explosive demand from China. The total volume of exports reached $243M or 312K tons. China remains the key destination for groundnut supplies from the U.S., accounting for 85% of the total figure. At the same time, shipments from the U.S. constitute 97% of the Chinese peanut imports.
In 2022, peanut prices are forecast to remain stable due to rising global production. This year, the world’s peanut seed output is set to reach a record 50.7M tons, increasing by 2.3% y/y.
