China Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the gypsum, anhydrite and limestone price stood at $53.6 per ton (CIF, China), which is down by -18.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 48% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $87.5 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($135 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($35.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was limestone flux, limestone and calcareous stone ($130 per ton), while the price for gypsum and anhydrite totaled $52.6 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by gypsum and anhydrite (-2.5%).
China Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone Imports
In September 2022, approximately 48K tons of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone were imported into China; falling by -16.7% against the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 228% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 67K tons in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports fell remarkably to $2.6M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when imports increased by 134% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 4K tons in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone Imports by Type
In September 2022, gypsum and anhydrite (47K tons) was the main type of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone supplied to China, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by limestone flux, limestone and calcareous stone (637 tons), with a 1.3% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of gypsum and anhydrite amounted to -1.6%.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite ($2.5M) constituted the largest type of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone supplied to China, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by limestone flux, limestone and calcareous stone ($83K), with a 3.2% share of total imports.
China Gypsum, Anhydrite And Limestone Imports by Country
In September 2022, Thailand (27K tons) constituted the largest supplier of gypsum, anhydrite and limestone to China, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, gypsum, anhydrite and limestone imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (8.5K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (5.1K tons), with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand totaled -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Iran (-2.8% per month) and Egypt (+26.1% per month).
In value terms, Thailand ($924K), Morocco ($480K) and Iran ($462K) constituted the largest gypsum, anhydrite and limestone suppliers to China, together comprising 73% of total imports. Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
Among the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +16.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
