China Heavy Water, Isotopes And Their Compounds Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the heavy water, isotopes and their compounds price amounted to $1.9K per kg (CIF, China), with a decrease of -23.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 147% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3.9K per kg in January 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($29.6K per kg), while the price for Canada ($438 per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+17.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, imports of heavy water (deuterium oxide); isotopes and their compounds (excluding radioactive and fissile or fertile chemical isotopes) reached the maximum at 21 tons in April 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2022.
In value terms, imports of heavy water (deuterium oxide); isotopes and their compounds (excluding radioactive and the fissile or fertile chemical isotopes) expanded slightly to $22M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +98.3% against June 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 80% month-to-month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

In September 2022, Canada (7.5 tons) constituted the largest supplier of heavy water, isotopes and their compounds to China, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of heavy water (deuterium oxide); isotopes and their compounds (excluding radioactive and the fissile or fertile chemical isotopes) from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (1.7 tons), fourfold. Germany (1.3 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Canada amounted to +143.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Iran (+2.3% per month) and Germany (+30.7% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($11M) constituted the largest supplier of heavy water, isotopes and their compounds to China, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($3.3M), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Georgia, with an 8% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+58.7% per month) and Georgia (+103.2% per month).
