China Hemp Tow Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the hemp tow price amounted to $10.1 per kg (FOB, China), increasing by 8.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 86% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $13,487 per ton. From April 2022 to August 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($10.6 per kg), while the average price for exports to India ($6,992 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Hemp Tow Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was hemp (cannabis sativa l.); processed (other than retted) (but not spun), true hemp tow and waste (including yarn waste and garnetted stock) ($11.1 per kg), while the average price for exports of hemp (cannabis sativa l.); raw or retted, but not spun totaled $8,200 per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: hemp (cannabis sativa l.); raw or retted, but not spun (+8.1%).
China Hemp Tow Exports
In August 2022, the amount of hemp tow exported from China skyrocketed to 32 tons, increasing by 123% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when exports increased by 610% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 137 tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hemp tow exports skyrocketed to $318K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 460% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 986 tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Hemp Tow Exports by Type
Hemp (cannabis sativa l.); processed (other than retted) (but not spun), true hemp tow and waste (including yarn waste and garnetted stock) (21 tons) and hemp (cannabis sativa l.); raw or retted, but not spun (11 tons) were the main products of hemp tow exports from China.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by hemp (cannabis sativa l.); raw or retted, but not spun (with a CAGR of +40.0%).
In value terms, hemp (cannabis sativa l.); processed (other than retted) (but not spun), true hemp tow and waste (including yarn waste and garnetted stock) ($228K) remains the largest type of hemp tow exported from China, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by hemp (cannabis sativa l.); raw or retted, but not spun ($90K), with a 28% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of hemp (cannabis sativa l.); processed (other than retted) (but not spun), true hemp tow and waste (including yarn waste and garnetted stock) totaled -18.8%.
China Hemp Tow Exports by Country
Japan (18 tons), Tunisia (11 tons) and India (2.6 tons) were the main destinations of hemp tow exports from China, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($186K) emerged as the key foreign market for hemp tow exports from China, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($90K), with a 28% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Japan totaled +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+2.6% per month) and India (+5.5% per month).
