China Honey Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the honey price stood at $1,797 per ton (FOB, China), with a decrease of -6.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,913 per ton, and then dropped in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($3,363 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,274 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Honey Exports
In September 2022, the amount of honey exported from China contracted remarkably to 9.3K tons, waning by -19.9% on August 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 20% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 17K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, honey exports dropped remarkably to $17M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 20% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 30K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Honey Exports by Country
Japan (2.2K tons), Belgium (1.5K tons) and the UK (998 tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from China, together accounting for 50% of total exports. Poland, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Germany, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Singapore and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Portugal (with a CAGR of +16.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($4.5M), Belgium ($2.4M) and Poland ($1.8M) appeared to be the largest markets for honey exported from China worldwide, with a combined 52% share of total exports. the UK, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Ireland and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of +15.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
