Honey Prices in the United States

U.S. Honey Import Price per Ton in August 2022

In August 2022, the honey price per ton stood at $3.3K (CIF, US), falling by -7.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 4.5% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4.1K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($5.0K per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Honey Imports

In August 2022, purchases abroad of honey decreased by -15.6% to 20K tons for the first time since April 2022, thus ending a three-month rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 120% against the previous month.

In value terms, honey imports fell notably to $65M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 114% month-to-month.

U.S. Honey Imports by Country

India (6.2K tons), Argentina (4.1K tons) and Brazil (2.6K tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to the United States, with a combined 66% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($18M), Argentina ($15M) and Brazil ($9.6M) appeared to be the largest honey suppliers to the United States, with a combined 65% share of total imports.

India, with a CAGR of +36.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
