U.S. Inedible Fish Products Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the inedible fish products price per ton stood at $1.2K (CIF, US), waning by -9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 9.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1.5K per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to August 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Norway ($1.7K per ton), while the price for Iceland ($693.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Inedible Fish Products Imports
After two months of growth, purchases abroad of inedible fish products decreased by -3.9% to 8K tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 43% against the previous month.
In value terms, inedible fish products imports dropped to $9.6M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when imports increased by 47% month-to-month.
U.S. Inedible Fish Products Imports by Country
In August 2022, Canada (3.8K tons) constituted the largest supplier of inedible fish products to the United States, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, inedible fish products imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iceland (991 tons), fourfold. The UK (721 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.1% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Canada amounted to +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Iceland (+10.0% per month) and the UK (+28.3% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($4.2M) constituted the largest supplier of inedible fish products to the United States, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Norway ($1.2M), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 9.3% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Canada totaled +17.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Norway (+33.7% per month) and the UK (+31.4% per month).
