China Inorganic Tanning Substances, Tanning Preparations, Enzymatic Preparations For Pre-Tanning Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning price amounted to $1,460 per ton (CIF, China), reducing by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,494 per ton in August 2022, and then reduced modestly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,106 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,086 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2022, supplies from abroad of inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning increased by 28% to 2.5K tons, rising for the second month in a row after three months of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 114% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at 3.9K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning skyrocketed to $3.6M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.4% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 104% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 4.6K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In September 2022, Turkey (1.3K tons) constituted the largest inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning supplier to China, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (433 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (258 tons), with a 10% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-4.0% per month) and India (+11.2% per month).

In value terms, Turkey ($1.8M) constituted the largest supplier of inorganic tanning substances, tanning preparations, enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning to China, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($670K), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with an 11% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Turkey stood at +11.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-4.3% per month) and India (+10.6% per month).
