China Iron or Steel Can Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the iron or steel can price stood at $401 per thousand units (FOB, China), growing by 14% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $406 per thousand units in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($1.2 per unit), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($129 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Iron or Steel Can Exports
In September 2022, overseas shipments of iron or steel cans decreased by -18% to 157M units, falling for the second consecutive month after five months of growth. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 30% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 204M units in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, iron or steel can exports reduced to $63M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total exports indicated a measured expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -19.7% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 39% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 78M units in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Iron or Steel Can Exports by Country
Yemen (18M units), the United States (15M units) and Hong Kong SAR (11M units) were the main destinations of iron or steel can exports from China, with a combined 28% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Yemen (with a CAGR of +104.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for iron or steel can exported from China were the United States ($7.3M), Japan ($4.7M) and Vietnam ($3.5M), together comprising 25% of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Yemen, Malaysia, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, the UK, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +60.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
