China Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Import Price in August 2022

In August 2022, the jute and jute-like fibers price stood at $843 per ton (CIF, China), falling by -6.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 9.1% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,049 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Bangladesh.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Bangladesh amounted to -2.4% per month.

China Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Import Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) ($991 per ton), while the price for jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie stood at $800 per ton.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) (-0.6%).

China Jute And Jute-Like Fibers Imports

In August 2022, supplies from abroad of jute and jute-like fibers increased by 15% to 1.5K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after three months of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 278% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 2.2K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports rose significantly to $1.2M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 298% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 2.2K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In August 2022, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie (1.1K tons) constituted the largest type of jute and jute-like fibers supplied to China, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) (338 tons), threefold.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie stood at +2.8%.

In value terms, jute and other textile bast fibres, raw or retted, but not spun, excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie ($914K) constituted the largest type of jute and jute-like fibers supplied to China, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by jute and other textile bast fibres; processed but not spun, tow and waste of these fibres, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (excluding flax, hemp (cannabis sativa l.), and ramie) ($335K), with a 27% share of total imports.
